An organizational development (OD) specialist is an experienced professional who has role of facilitating organizational improvement, including assessing training needs, diagnosing organizational problem areas, consulting on OD strategies, and conducting team building sessions. OD Specialists work with the industry organization to help them run efficiently and effectively.

Role purpose

An organizational development (OD) specialist is an experienced professional who has role of facilitating organizational improvement, including assessing training needs, diagnosing organizational problem areas, consulting on OD strategies, and conducting team building sessions. OD Specialists work with the industry organization to help them run efficiently and effectively.

Duties of an OD Specialist

The OD Specialist has a range of responsibilities. They assist the organization in areas such as team development, strategic planning, leadership development, organizational redesign, and change management.

Team development is essential in every organization. The OD specialist may examine and analyze that need to work in order so that team can carry out task effectively. They may also develop tools for the efficiency of staffs.

An OD specialist may also develop best practices for successful leadership values and characteristics for strategic planning. They oversee and administer targeted development programs for high potential leaders within the organization.


Specific duties

  • Be responsible for talent acquisition strategy following the Curo Fund Services approach.

  • Ensure that the organization is following scientific methods when recruiting new employees through psychometric assessments and reporting.

  • Effective coordination of psychometric methods within the organization thereby demonstrating value of psychometric assessments for the business.

  • Provide employee reports detailing developmental areas and strong points thereby mapping out talent development in liaison with the Learning and Development Manager

  • Develop and implement programs to align work force and key business initiatives through use of organizational effectiveness interventions.

  • Assist the organization in areas of team development and change management.

  • Operate as an organizational leader internal consultant to identify, develop and implement people processes and organizational effectiveness interventions, as and when required.

  • Act as a change agent providing the support and mechanism to implement major changes introduced in the business through the Change Management process

  • Manage the process of replacement planning, succession planning, key employee retention design, change management, workforce management and talent management and development.

  • Support organizational planning including creation of organizational charts, review of roles and responsibilities and job descriptions.

  • Identify and monitor company culture so that it supports the project's goals and promotes employee satisfaction through its values system. Conduct employee engagement focus groups within Curo and to discuss staff initiatives and programs.

  • Initiate interventions across the organisation through facilitation of programmes i.e. Onboarding, Values Engagement, Management Programmes, leadership development.



Organizational Development Specialist Experience & Skill Set Requirements

  • Honours degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources Management, Industrial Psychology

  • Registered Psychologist with HPCSA is advantageous

  • 3-5 years related experience in organizational development

  • Proficiency in English

  • Must have previous experience working independently or with minimal supervision.

  • Attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong follow through required.
